Sprechstimme (Speech-level singing) technique
The technique that Gladys teaches is Sprechstimme1 (Speech Singing), one of the most popular singing techniques at present. It is originated from musicals singing. In order to act through singing, one needs to be able to express the feeling and personality through words (lyrics). Speech singing enables one’s singing to be more convincing, engaging and touching. It gives the song a life and soul that is lacking otherwise.

The major enabler to master the technique is the strong vocal muscles. With the appropriate “work-out” of the vocal instrument, Gladys’s students are able to sing a wide range, more importantly, naturally and effortlessly.

“Breathing comes naturally from your diaphragm if you use your vocal muscles right,” commented Gladys. For some of the newer pop singers, you can hear the mark of breathing, like the cracking sound of a moving door. This shows the inadequacy of their singing skills. Gladys’s students, with the proper training of their vocal muscles, do not have the problem of breathing. Singing will be perfect without distraction.

Gladys is now accepting new students, interested parties please email to gladyschan AT gladyschan.com.

1 Sprechstimme (German for "speech voice") and Sprechgesang ("speech song") is a technique of vocal production halfway between singing and speaking.  Since the end of the 19th century, it has sometimes been called for by composers of classical music. Today, it develops into speech singing.
